Great Amateur Lens Addition, Adapts Well To Cameras/CamcordersApr 13, 2012
By Brandon A. Gibbs

This is an okay lens addition, for a non-camera name brand supplier. I would not have thought of it anything more than typical wide lenses if I had not found that the attachment works both with my Nikon as well as the GL2. Since it has given some pretty good results with both, I cannot complain.
As far as its description, it does seem to work well with the autofocus and definition, but there is a give and take for full features.
I attached this with additional adapting rings to my old Canon GL2, and it gave some nice wide shots, which were detracted a bit by the black edges of the tube when at not zoom. I wasn't very happy about that, but it did give a clean standard shot when I zoomed in, with minor vignetting. Its okay for a GL2 addition and it fits the class of camcorder well.
Now, when I used the adaptor and put it on my Nikon D90, I had a different experience altogether. It still gave the black edges of the tube; however it provided a nice photographic effect. And when I tested the $400 14mm lens for the Nikon (various brands) I found that it pretty much had a similar vignetting effect. Therefore, I was better off with this cheaper alternative, attaching the Opteka lens to my 18-55 Nikkor lens.
The Opteka lens suits nicely for affordable amateur and documentation purposes.
OK, not greatJul 18, 2009
By C. Bennett I was a little disappointed when I received my fisheye lens. I got is as a gift and my boyfriend wanted to use it to film for skateboarding. I know it was a good deal at only $30, but I expected more of a fisheye effect considering the sample pictures provided. If you are looking for a dramatic fisheye you better save up your money.
