4Great lens for beginnersFeb 13, 2009
By Kumar Veetrag "Veetrag"
This was the first fisheye lens I have bought, the main factor to buy this lens was its price. I wanted to try my hands on fisheye as I had never tried it before and what better place to start with very little investment. I used it with my D40 and found the results very satisfactory.

4Please Look at Pictures it takes before buying. Works with Nikon D60.Jul 17, 2009

*This is a specialized lens. The macro lens is used for taking close up pictures of small objects (insects, pennies, etc), and the fisheye lens is used to take pictures whose results appear as a fisheye, eg real estate pictures, nature photography, sports, etc, etc. This lens does both, which is a good thing.

The lenses capabilities have been listed by other reviewers. I think that, for the price, it takes pretty decent pictures. I only have one problem though; when taking the 'fisheye' pictures, (the round pictures that resemble the eye of a fish) sometimes, there is a streak of light, barely noticeable, that penetrates the portion between the normal camera lens (18-55) and the macro-fisheye lens. I have tightened the lens to try and eliminate this, but a keen observer may point this out! As for the issue with the flash (pictures come out badly when flash is used, and you should not use the flash while using this lens), I saw that, even with minimal light, the D60 was able to use its internal flash to light up the picture!

For those complaining, please note that a Nikon fisheye lens costs $699, and a Nikon macro lens is [..]. To take pictures using the original Nikon macro or fisheye lenses, similar to those this particular Opteka lens takes, you would need to purchase the two lenses separately at more than [..]! (or even more)

Unless you earn your living in specialized photography, or are a perfectionist to the T, then this lens is good for beginners, amateurs and semi-professionals, and about [..]cheaper!

Please look at the pictures posted above submitted by reviewers, and their website recommendations to be able to see exactly what type of pictures are produced by this lens, if you are not exactly sure. Here is my link I found [..]

5Okay fisheye for a good priceJan 19, 2009
By M. D. Grisham
Although this isn't the greatest fisheye lens on the market for $30 you shouldn't expect it to be. I personally own a Nikon D60 and the fisheye fit perfectly on both of my lenses. I don't know what the other reviewers were having problems with because mine works and fits great.

It does squeak when you screw it on the lens which is really annoying but, i can't expect much for what i paid.

5Works great with my D60Dec 26, 2008

I bought this for my wife's D60. It fits just fine on the end of the lens the camera came with. I don't know what the other yahoo's problem with it is, but it works great. Just screw it on to the end of your lense. You may need an adapter, but mine didn't.
You'll have to turn off your flash if you're using the stock one since the light will hit the fisheye lense since it's so long.

5Excellent, especially for the priceApr 02, 2009
By Eagle JT "Eagle JT"
I bought this lens along with the Opteka 52mm 10x HD² Professional Macro Lens Opteka 52mm 10x HD² Professional Macro Lens for Nikon D60, D40, D40X, & D50 Digital SLR Cameras. In side by side comparisons of the pictures from the macro lenses, this one appears to be equal to the task, plus you get the fisheye all for the same price. Though the description of the fisheye notes a 180-degree view, it appears to be SLIGHTLY less than that when using my 18mm setting on my Nikon lens (not complaining, just noting).
Overall, I strongly recommend this product if you're a amateur, even a serious one, looking to get a cheap but sturdy and high quality macro/fisheye.
