Sigma 70-300 Zoom lens for Nikon D-40XFeb 18, 2010 It works ok, I guess you get what you pay for.
I think I could have done better, but its ok.
I got in a hurry and didn't do my home work good enough.
When I upgrade it will go with my old camrea.

Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 APO-M Zoom for Nikon D40Mar 11, 2009 To get the absolute BEST in lenses for a Nikon DSLR, buy Nikon lenses.
But if you live in the real world and have to count pennies, a Sigma lens (on the strength of this one) can be an excellent choice.
Clarity, speed and response are all very good with the biggest caveat I have on this lens being the amount of noise: it is far louder than either of my Nikon lenses, one of which is a 70-200 zoom.
I do not think the Sigma is quite as responsive as a Nikon lens, and there is the noise thing, but when you consider the price- less than half the price of a competing Nikon lens- it could be a good choice for many people.
It was for me.

value for moneyFeb 14, 2009 Bought this lens as a macro and zoom lens. I was very happy with results. Macro shots are miles better than Nikon 70-300G or VR, as it gets a very close 1:2. Not super sharp at 300 but I am more than happy as the center is sharp enough for my liking.
Flare is quite controllable, though the shake at 300mm at quite noticable if you have shaky hands. It also makes a nice portraits lens as the bokeh is quite pleasent IMHO. So far I'm quite happy with the results.
The lens is motorised but I believe this is quite different than HSM that Sigma has on other more expensive lenses(hence it does not has the HSM designation on it). You cannot focus manually as you would on HSM lenses. You need to set it to M first, then you only you can focus manually. The motor is quite loud and autofocus is bit slow on the longer end. But for the price, this lens is really a excellent value for money.
